Summary

This building is a seven-storey, 19400 square metre urban office building in the heart of Victoria, BC. Its objective is to provide an efficient, flexible, healthful, and productive workplace in an environmentally-progressive building that contributes to the aesthetic distinction and vitality of the downtown core. The team would also like to demonstrate human-scale urban densification that is in keeping with the spirit of historic Victoria. From an architectural perspective, the primary strategy is to reduce the energy required to create occupant comfort through strategies such an innovative high-performance envelope, indoor winter garden and an accessible green roof. While acknowledging the strength of market demand for parking, the Atrium Building will be supporting alternative transportation choices by providing secure bike storage and end-of-trip facilities for cyclists. Perhaps the most significant move the project makes from the perspective of sustainability is the transformation of a presently underdeveloped and partially vacant site to a living demonstration of urban regeneration.
