The Lesser Slave Lake Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation is being built to serve these 3 major functions: research, education, and tourism. The building has been designed to operate largely 'off-grid'รน. There is no piped gas, no piped water or sewer. The centre features geotechnical heating/cooling, composting toilets, waterless urinals, rainwater collection and purification, and natural ventilation.
